“Lisa Bent is a truly original talent who, in writing Symona's Still Single, has given us a keen insight into a world rarely imagined in fiction, that of the modern British Black woman.”

A Journey for both Symona and the reader
“I really enjoyed reading Lisa Bent's Symona's Still Single. In this book I saw my culture and the city I've grown up in accurately reflected in its pages. It may be a romantic novel, but it is more than that - it's a genre-bending, introspective, and deeply spiritual romantic book that takes you on a journey with Symona, which in turn encourages you to be self-reflective and confront your own issues/ barriers to finding love.
It's laugh out loud funny, moving in parts, and ultimately leaves you with a sense of hope. I loved the array of characters, and how each experience left Symona with a lesson she could use to empower herself and move forward in her quest for love in a positive way. Excellent read”.

“Loved this book a must read for all women on the journey of self discovery, awareness and healing. From the first chapter I was hooked ,I could resonate with some of the challenges and the emotional issues Symona experienced.Empowering and refreshing.”

I really Enjoyed this book.
“It made me laugh, made me reflect and at times gave me goosebumps. When I read Lisa’s bio at the end it made so much sense that she’s a professional counsellor. This is a love story but the main character is falling in love with and getting to know herself (whilst having some dates and dalliances along the way).
I loved Symona’s voice throughout and I’m going to miss hanging out with her. I especially loved the dynamic between her and her Grandma. There is a particular scene which will really stay with me. So moving.
I hate the word ‘chicklit’ because it doesn’t do these stories justice but this is a great and super original ‘chicklit’ read featuring an awesome cast of black women. I’m so pleased Symona’s Still Single was picked up by Jacaranda Books’ #Twentyin2020 initiative. You should read this book!”

Really enjoyed reading Symona's Still Single. Entertaining, thought provoking and really well written. I couldn't put it down because it resonated so much and I was hooked! No ordinary romance novel, it charts Black womanhood in all its glory whilst highlighting the different challenges and barriers faced. Many laugh out loud moments too. Brilliant book about identity, love and empowerment. — Anon, Amazon

The author was able to evoke various emotions within the reader which is always a sign of a great writer. Highly recommend to the 30s/40s age bracket or anyone who just loves a good romantic, down-to-earth novel.”

Highly Recommended!
The way Lisa wrote this book I was able to easily get into the mind of Symona and feel truly invested in her love life as though she were a close friend of mine!
Beautifully written and very relatable as many of the topics brought up are those I'd speak with my friends about.
Excited to see this go to TV or film!
